Website not opening

Symptoms

  • The browser shows a timeout, a blank page, or "this site can't be reached".
  • The site opens for you but not for others, or the reverse.
  • The home page loads but other pages fail.

Common causes

  • The domain's DNS does not point to your hosting, or was changed recently.
  • The main page is missing, has the wrong name, or is not in the public folder.
  • Your hosting is suspended, or the plan's resources are used up.
  • A temporary issue on your connection, or a cached old page in your browser.

Safe initial checks

  1. Open the site in a private browser window, and try a different network or device.
  2. Check the address you typed, including https:// and the spelling.
  3. Check the DNS. Run dig A yourdomain.com +short and compare the answer with your hosting address. See Find your DNS provider.
  4. Check the hosting status in the Client Area. See Hosting suspended.

Step-by-step solutions

  1. DNS points elsewhere. Update the record at the DNS provider that manages the domain. See A and AAAA records.
  2. Missing main page. Upload an index.html or index.php file to the public folder. See File manager.
  3. Hosting suspended or resources used up. Read Hosting suspended or Resource limit reached.
  4. Temporary connection issue. Clear the browser cache, or wait a few minutes and try again.

How to confirm the issue is fixed

  • The site opens in a private window on two different networks.
  • dig A yourdomain.com +short returns the hosting address.

When to contact support

Contact support if the DNS is correct, the main page is in place and the account is active, but the site still does not open.

Information to include in a support ticket

  • The domain name and the exact error the browser shows.
  • The time the problem started, and the result of dig A yourdomain.com +short.
  • Whether the problem affects all visitors or only you.
