Domain renewal issues

Symptoms

  • The domain shows as expired, in grace period or in redemption.
  • The renewal payment was made, but the domain still shows the old expiry date.
  • The renewal option is not offered for the domain.

Common causes

  • The renewal invoice was not paid, or was paid to a different order.
  • The domain is in a grace or redemption period, which can need extra steps.
  • The domain's status is locked, or the registrant details are not verified.
  • The renewal was made for a different domain with a similar name.

Safe initial checks

  1. Check the expiry date in the Client Area. See Renewals.
  2. Check the invoice status. See Invoices and payments.
  3. Check the domain status and any lock or verification notice shown for the domain.

Step-by-step solutions

  1. Invoice unpaid. Pay the renewal invoice. See Renew a domain.
  2. In grace or redemption period. Renew as soon as possible, and follow the steps shown for the period. Ask support if the renewal option is missing.
  3. Locked or unverified. Remove the lock, or complete the verification step. See Domain security.
  4. Wrong domain. Confirm the domain name on the invoice and the renewal order.

How to confirm the issue is fixed

  • The Client Area shows the new expiry date.
  • The domain is active and resolves in DNS.
