How to connect a domain to Business Email
This guide explains how to connect your domain to Business Email by adding the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records at the correct DNS provider.
Before you begin
- An active Business Email service. See How to order Business Email.
- Access to the DNS settings of the domain, at the provider where its DNS is managed. Read Find your DNS provider.
- A note of whether the domain already receives email from another service.
Read before you change MX records
Changing MX records changes where incoming email for the domain is delivered. If the domain already receives mail somewhere else, replacing its MX records can interrupt that service. Plan the change first.
Steps
- Sign in to the Business Email Panel and add or select your domain.
- Add the MX records. See How to add MX records.
- Add the SPF record. See How to configure SPF.
- Add the DKIM record shown for your domain. See How to configure DKIM.
- Add the DMARC record. See How to configure DMARC.
- Wait for the changes to spread, then check the records. See Check the records.
- Create your mailboxes. See How to create an email account.
You do not need to change nameservers
Adding MX, SPF, DKIM or DMARC records does not normally need new nameservers. Add the records at the DNS provider you already use.
Expected result
Your DNS checks show the Business Email records, and a test message to a new mailbox arrives.
If something goes wrong
- The domain is not accepted. Check that the DNS records are spelled exactly as shown, and that you edited the correct DNS provider.
- Mail still goes to the old service. The change may still be spreading. Read Email not receiving.
- The DKIM record is not shown. Check the domain's settings in the Business Email Panel. If it still does not appear, contact support.
