How to configure Outlook
This guide explains how to add your Business Email mailbox to Microsoft Outlook with IMAP for incoming mail and SMTP for outgoing mail, with encryption turned on.
Before you begin
- A Business Email mailbox and its password. See How to create an email account.
- The username shown for the mailbox in the Business Email Panel.
- The settings below. For what IMAP and SMTP do, see IMAP and SMTP settings.
Settings you need
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Incoming mail (IMAP) | Server mail.apncloud.com, port 993, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing mail (SMTP) | Server mail.apncloud.com, port 465 with SSL/TLS, or port 587 with STARTTLS |
| Username | The mailbox username shown in the Business Email Panel |
| Password | The password you set for the mailbox |
Steps
- Open Outlook and choose the option to add a new account.
- Enter your full email address, then choose Advanced setup or Manual setup, if shown.
- Choose IMAP as the account type.
- Enter the incoming and outgoing server settings from the table above.
- Select SSL/TLS or STARTTLS as the security type, as listed above.
- Enter the mailbox username and password, then finish the setup.
- Send a test message to another address you control and check that it arrives.
Do not ignore certificate warnings
If Outlook shows a certificate warning, stop. Check that the server name is exactly mail.apncloud.com. Never trust a certificate for an unknown server, and never turn off encryption to get the account working.
Menu names may vary
Outlook versions use different menu names. The settings in the table are the same in every version.
Expected result
Outlook shows your Business Email inbox, and the test message arrives.
If something goes wrong
- Sign-in fails. Check the username and password. Read Email authentication errors.
- Sending fails. Read Email not sending.
- The inbox stays empty. Read Email not receiving.
