How to configure DKIM

This guide explains what DKIM does, where to find your domain's own DKIM record in the Business Email Panel, and how to add it exactly as shown.

Before you begin

DKIM signs each outgoing message with a private key held by your mail service. Receiving servers check that signature against a public key published in your DNS. This proves the message came from an authorised service and was not changed on the way.

Steps

  1. Sign in to the Business Email Panel and open your domain.
  2. Find the DKIM record for that domain. It is usually shown with the DNS records or the authentication settings. The menu name may vary.
  3. Copy the host name and the value exactly as shown. The host includes a selector, such as <selector>._domainkey. The value is a long public key that starts with v=DKIM1.
  4. Open the DNS records at your DNS provider and add a TXT record using the host and value you copied.
  5. Save the change and wait for it to spread.
  6. Check the record with the command below.
TypeHostValue
TXTThe host name shown in the panel, such as <selector>._domainkeyThe public key shown in the panel

Copy exactly

  • Do not retype or change the key. A single missing character makes DKIM fail.
  • Some DNS providers add your domain name automatically. If the panel shows the host as <selector>._domainkey.yourdomain.com, enter only <selector>._domainkey.
  • Some DNS providers need the value inside quotes. Most accept it without quotes. Follow your provider's format.

Check the record

Replace <selector> with the selector from the panel:

bash
dig TXT <selector>._domainkey.yourdomain.com +short

The result should show the same key text you entered.

Expected result

The lookup returns your domain's public key, and Business Email messages pass the DKIM check.

If something goes wrong

  • The record in the panel is different from the one you added. Remove your entry and add the record again, copying from the panel.
  • The DKIM check still fails. Check for missing characters, and that the host is exactly the selector.
  • You cannot find the DKIM record. Contact support from the Client Area.
