Understand advanced web-server options

Advanced controls can change file handling or application routing. Use only settings enabled and supported for your account.

Before you begin

Use the APNCloud Hosting Panel. The tools available to you depend on account permissions and the plan. If an option is missing, ask support whether your service includes it.

Steps

  1. Apache Handlers changes how file extensions are executed. Do not make uploaded files executable or use it to work around a missing supported PHP version.
  2. MIME types controls content types. Use standard types for real formats; forcing executable content to download or vice versa can expose source or create security problems.
  3. Perl Modules lists available modules; it does not guarantee root access or permission to install system packages. Ask support about missing dependencies.
  4. Nginx Templates selects supported server routing templates. Back up current settings and test redirects, assets and application routes after changing one. Apache rewrite files do not configure Nginx directly.
  5. Nginx Unit may appear as a legacy application-server feature. Its upstream project is archived and unmaintained. Ask support for a maintained runtime before placing a new public app there; a VPS with maintained services is an alternative.
  6. For production Node.js and PHP frameworks, follow the application guides and confirm runtime maintenance, process supervision, logs and rollback.

Check the result

Test the intended task and unrelated website and email functions. If a tool is missing or the result is unexpected, keep the error and time and contact support instead of guessing server-wide settings.
