Set redirects and protect directories

Use domain pointers for aliases, redirects for navigation and directory protection for restricted content. These controls solve different problems.

Before you begin

Use the APNCloud Hosting Panel. The tools available to you depend on account permissions and the plan. If an option is missing, ask support whether your service includes it.

Steps

  1. Back up existing rules and select the intended domain. Confirm its HTTPS certificate covers the source and destination names.
  2. Open Site Redirects for a URL redirect. Test temporarily before choosing a permanent redirect, which browsers may cache. Preserve paths only when the destination supports them.
  3. Use Domain Pointers for an alias or redirect according to the option displayed. A pointer still needs correct DNS and a certificate.
  4. Open Password Protected Directories, select the real directory and create a separate credential. Test access while signed out; HTTPS is required for credential protection in transit.
  5. Use Hotlink Protection only for unwanted external embedding. Allow your own domain and any legitimate CDN; it is not authentication or copyright protection.
  6. Test loops, legitimate images, login, APIs and search-engine access. Keep redirects in one layer where possible.

Check the result

Test the intended task and unrelated website and email functions. If a tool is missing or the result is unexpected, keep the error and time and contact support instead of guessing server-wide settings.
