What is web hosting?
This guide covers how a website, a domain and a hosting service work together, and which APNCloud services support each part.
Web hosting is a service that stores your website files on a server that stays connected to the internet. When a visitor types your address into a browser, the server sends your pages back.
A domain is the name people type, such as example.com. A DNS record tells the internet where that name should point. Hosting is the place where your files live. You usually need all three for a live website: a domain, a DNS setting that points to your hosting, and the hosting itself.
APNCloud offers these related services:
- Domain registration and transfers
- Shared web hosting, WordPress hosting and ecommerce hosting
- Reseller hosting for people who sell hosting to their own customers
- VPS hosting, including managed VPS, and dedicated servers
- SSL certificates for secure HTTPS connections
- APNCloud Business Email, a separate professional email service
Email included with some hosting plans is different from Business Email. The Business Email vs Hosting Email guide explains the difference.
